“I became a nurse because I wanted to care for people and my job doesn’t stop just because it’s Christmas Day”

Kenny Edwards, 21, originally from Cumbria, now living in Angarrack, near Falmouth in Cornwall, will be working behind the bar of the Angarrack Inn on Christmas Day. As his family all live in Barbados, Kenny – who is planning to do a Masters degree in the UK – will be going solo this Crimbo.

He says: “It is really hard not seeing my family and I definitely feel a strong sense of longing to be with them. I’m lucky that I can Skype them but it’s not the same. This Christmas will be the first one I’ve spent on my own so it’s going to be quite difficult.

“There won’t be a turkey dinner and Christmas tree for me this year as I’ll be working in the pub, but I think I’m lucky as I work with such a great bunch of people. “At least I’ll be with other people rather than on my own. Lots of people from the village will pop in for a drink and a chat on Christmas Day which will be nice, so that compensates a bit.”
