A woman stuck in mud up to her knees has been rescued by firefighters after an emergency call yesterday.

The emergency services were requested just before 6pm on Sunday to the Millpond in Foundry Hill, Hayle.

Once a thriving centre of industry, these days the Millponds provide a public garden, children's play area and amphitheatre leading to the woodland setting of the old Rope Works, Ropewalk and Riverside Trail.

Rescuers from Hayle and Tolvaddon fire stations went to the scene where the woman was believed to have got stuck in the mud on a walkway - not in the pond itself.

After helping to stop her sinking any further, they pulled her out using rope lines.

"Two appliances from Hayle and Tolvaddon attended a call to a female who had gotten stuck in sinking mud in the Millpond up to her knees," said a fire spokesman.

"Crews stabilised the female using lines, once stable they used the lines to guide the female onto an area of hard standing."
