A driver has been fined and sent home after travelling down to Cornwall for a holiday.

Police carried out a traffic operation across Bodmin and Wadebridge on Wednesday, including speed checks.

One vehicle was given a fixed penalty notice for breaching the coronavirus regulations by having come to the Duchy for a holiday.

Although some lockdown measures have been eased and people are now allowed to travel for day trips, it is still not allowed to stay overnight somewhere else.

Officers say the vehicle also had two bald tyres and it ended up being an "expensive and unnecessary trip".

"A traffic operation was conducted in the Bodmin and Wadebridge areas yesterday including speed checks completed in key areas across both towns.

"Various vehicles stopped and occupants spoken to.

"The driver of one vehicle was dealt with for an expired MOT certificate and another was given a fixed penalty ticket for breaching the coronavirus regulations having travelled to Cornwall on holiday.

"They were also dealt with for two bald tyres - an expensive and unnecessary trip."
