POLICE patrol cars were out in force yesterday to work the west Cornwall area as part of their No Excuses campaign.

They were on the stretch of A30 from Chiverton Cross to Penzance and had several incidents to attend.

A spokesman said: "Not long after passing Chiverton Cross we picked up on a radio circulation for a possible drug driver in Hayle.

"The vehicle was soon located and stopped by two of our cars in the Redruth area. The driver tested positive for cannabis and was arrested."

"We then had a BMW fail to stop for us on the causeway in Hayle. The vehicle made off and enquiries are on going to locate the vehicle."

Not long after the first fail to stop, a second BMW did the same in Penzance.

The spokesman added: "There was a short pursuit which ended in the driver abandoning the vehicle. He was located shortly after by Penzance Police CID officers a little worse for wear, after going through water and woodland trying to escape.

"His car was uninsured and a quantity of drugs located inside. He has a date with court in the near future."

Towards the end of the shift another vehicle was stopped in Canonstown. The driver was located in possession of cannabis and failed the roadside drugs test for the same. She was arrested and blood samples taken.
