New Home Bargains store opens in Hayle on Saturday after multi-million pound investment
'We’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices'
The company, one of Britain’s largest family-run retailers, has taken over the former Co-operative branch on Copper Terrace and, after a refurbishment, will officially open for business at 8am.
It’s the first store of its kind in the area, joining 450 outlets in the UK.
Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains said it was proud to be bucking current trends in the industry.
“We’re thrilled to be launching a new store in Hayle and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors," said Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains.
“Copper Terrace will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”
The 18,600 sq ft store, which is a former Co-op, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks as well as fresh and frozen food.
With more than four million customers each week, Home Bargains said it was one of the country’s most popular discount retailers, stocking branded goods at low prices.
The company intends to continue its rapid expansion and has plans to grow to 800 stores and 35,000 staff.
It seems the former Co-op store will be a tough act to follow, however. When it was announced that it would close on June 17 the news was slammed by furious members of the community.
One shopper, Jayne Mansfield, recently moved out of Hayle to Barripper, but still made 15-mile round trip back to the store to do her weekly shopping.
She told us: "I've shopped there for the last 25 years and went in last night and the atmosphere was dreadful. The staff told me what had happened and I just couldn't believe it.
"It's a good, modern shop and had fantastic customer service. the manager really turned it around and did so much for charity and the local community."
