Covid-19 case confirmed at Archbishop Benson primary school in Truro

The children affected will have to stay home for 14 days

A whole year group at a primary school in Cornwall has been asked to stay at home after a pupil tested positive for COVID-19.

Parents at Archbishop Benson in Truro were notified this morning of a confirmed case of coronavirus at the school.

In a message to parents and carers, headteacher Helen Giblett wrote: “We are writing to inform you that there has been a confirmed case of coronavirus in the Year 4 bubble so this bubble will be closed for 14 days.”

There were 26 new positive tests reported in Cornwall yesterday (October 5).

A new interactive map shows how many positive cases of coronavirus have been logged near schools.

Launched by the National Education Union (NEU) as part of its campaign to help keep schools and communities safe, the map presents "accurate, accessible and up-to-date" information from the government on the COVID-19 rate near every school in England.

The map, which is updated every week, shows the current number of positive cases in a school's "surrounding area" and whether there has been an increase or decrease on the numbers recorded the previous week.

It also shows whether or not the school is on a "watchlist" and links to any local restrictions that are in place.

All you have to do to access the information is type in the name of your child's school, or your postcode.

While the map will offer reassurance for much of the country where case numbers are low, the NEU says the map will also help reinforce public health messaging from local authorities and the government in areas where the number of cases is higher.

Where confirmed cases of COVID-19 are higher, the map will support headteachers in encouraging parents and other visitors to school sites to maintain social-distancing and hygiene.
