Implementation of traffic calming measures along the B3280 through Townshend

Background:

This scheme has been nominated by the parish council and local member through the Community Network Panel.

Concerns
have been raised about the speed of traffic through Townshend. In
particular there are concerns about access and egress from the road to
the adjacent properties and connectivity concerns within in the village
as there is a fear of walking along the road.

Scheme Objectives

Preliminary
design work has identified a number of traffic calming measures that
can be implemented through the village. It is anticipated that these
measures will have the effect of reducing traffic speeds through the
village:

• New gateway features at the existing 30mph terminals
at both ends of the village. This include wood-effect gateways,
“dragon’s teeth” and 30 roundel road markings.
• Priority “give way” build outs at three locations in the village. These will include bypasses for cyclists.
• Build outs in the vicinity of “The Firs” that will locally narrow the carriageway
• Removal of the centre line in the vicinity of “Treloweth”
