HAYLE FILM CLUB:

The Dressmaker on Saturday June 11 at 7.30pm.

Kate Winslet stars in this blackly comic Australian revenge drama as a wronged woman returning to the town where she grew up to nurse her ailing mother. When she left in 1926, she was a schoolgirl suspected of murder and exiled; now it's 1951 and she is an accomplished and glamorous couture dressmaker, determined to find out the truth. Her arrival - and her fabulous dresses - turn the town upside down. Gradually she remembers the past events she had suppressed and discovers who was involved or looked the other way. It's not a pretty story, and Tilly is a femme fatale in every sense. (118 min, rated 12A)

As ever, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, house lights down at 7.30pm and home-baked refreshments after. Tickets at £5/£4 for members, reserve on 01736 752319, or book online at www.haylefilmclub.org.uk
