Celtic Sea Power (was Wavehub)

July 2021 - Wave Hub Development Services Ltd will now be known as Celtic Sea Power

Wave Hub allows developers of wave energy devices to test new wave energy technology.

Wave Hub is a grid-connected offshore facility in South West England for the large scale testing of technologies that generate electricity from the power of the waves. It holds a 25 year lease of 8 sq km of sea bed connected to the grid by a 11/33kv subsea cable.

Generating electricity from the power of waves

The United Kingdom has long sections of coastline that face directly towards the Atlantic Ocean. Storms far out in the Atlantic lead to waves which eventually reach our shores.

Harnessing the abundant energy in these waves can provide a supply of electricity for years to come without emitting greenhouse gases into the Earth’s atmosphere. Wave Hub is there to support the work of the innovative scientists and engineers to build machines that can achieve this.

Cornwall produces 38% of its own power from renewables, a figure

Cornwall produces 38% of its own power from renewables, a figure that’s constantly rising. That’s up from under 6% in 2009! If we get an array in the sea off Hayle it can immediately connect into the wave hub infrastructure and double that figure!
