Very Noisy, loose drain cover, 1st April

There is a loose/defective drain cover on Cooperage Road, Trewoon, located by the bus stop almost opposite the junction with St Mewan Lane. Every time a vehicle passes over it, it creates a loud banging/clanking noise. This happens constantly throughout the day and night and is causing significant disturbance to nearby residents. The issue has already been reported but remains unresolved. The cover appears to be moving under traffic, so this may also present a potential safety risk if it worsens or becomes dislodged. Please can this be inspected and repaired as a matter of urgency.

???????????????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????? ???? ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????????????????????????????.

Consistently careful financial planning in recent years has enabled the Council to continue providing important local services through devolution, with potentially more sites and service to come on board this year. These include the library, CCTV, public conveniences, footpath maintenance, and the management of open spaces such as Hayle Outdoor Pool, Hayle Recreation Ground and King George V Memorial Walk.

We also continue to support local groups each year, including Hayle Day Care Centre, Hayle in Bloom, Hayle Decorative Lights and the Friends of the Towans.

We are committed to raising Hayle’s profile by introducing new events and projects. To help deliver more for residents, we have budgeted for additional support to the Management Team, with the aim of securing more external funding, improving facilities and expanding community and civic events. We have received a number of significant grants during 2025-26 and we’re aiming for even more in 2026-27.

The creation of a Civic and Community Hub on the library site remains a key priority. The project has progressed to RIBA Stage 4 and is ready to build, subject to securing external grant funding in the coming years.

To ensure the Council can deliver these services and plans, an independent organisational review was undertaken. This identified areas where additional resources are needed, alongside opportunities to generate income. Changes to the staffing structure will be introduced in the year ahead, while savings and new income streams will continue to be explored. The budget also reflects increases to the National Living Wage and outcomes of the job evaluation process.

Following last year’s significant precept rise, the Council has worked to keep this year’s increase as low as possible while continuing to support the community and plan for the future.
