St Austell has always been a traditional stronghold for the Liberal Democrats with the likes of David Penhaligon and Matthew Taylor having enjoyed strong support over the years. A drifter and prolific criminal from Cornwall has admitted carrying out a robbery and breaking into a hotel room while he was transferring from a train to a bus.
