A rescue was launched early this morning after an 'extremely drunk' man tried to swim across the River Tamar on the Torpoint Ferry route. Police were called to the Devonport slipway at about 6.30am after reports that there was a man "up to his neck in the water". A Ministry of Defence Police launch was called in to assist as Devon and Cornwall Police officers raced to the scene.
