Hayle Outdoor Swimming Pool
Since the summer of 2016 the pool has been heated by a solar cover and now the water temperature regularly reaches between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.

2019 Season

This year the Hayle Outdoor Swimming Pool season will be extended to include the summer half-term holiday and weekends in June. The pool will open on Saturday 25 May 2019 for the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend and the half-term holiday week and then weekends until it opens daily from 29 June 2019.

Opening hours are from 11am to 6pm, weather permitting, until Sunday 8 September 2019. We can confirm that entrance prices have not been increased for the sixth year in a row and once again season tickets will be available to purchase.  read more »

TRAIN services between Plymouth and Penzance are set to double today (Monday, May 20), as part of Great Western Railway’s new May timetable.

To be operated by new Intercity Express Trains and refurbished Castle Class trains, which GWR says offer more seats and greater comfort, the new timetable will see regular half-hourly local stopping services between Plymouth and Penzance, doubling the frequency of off-peak services.  read more »

144-inch-diameter cylinder, powering eight beams, used to drain Haarlemmermeer in the Netherlands Cruquius station

Harvey & Co. of Hayle was responsible for producing the world's largest ever beam engine. With a 144-inch- diameter cylinder, powering eight beams, it was used to drain the Haarlemmermeer in the Netherlands and has been preserved at the Museum De Cruquius (above). The three men shown stood with a miscast of the gigantic cylinder are Francis Harvey, Jebus Bickle (an important figure at Harvey's who came from a large family of engineers) and the foreman Billy Gilbert.  read more »
