North Quay leads phased return to work for Corinthian Homes

North Quay Block A1 foundations

12 May 2020

Work is progressing on the transformation of Hayle Harbour following an announcement by developers Corinthian Homes of a phased return to construction activities across all its sites.

The first foundations are now being laid as part of the North Quay scheme – the centrepiece of an exciting and vibrant new coastal destination for West Cornwall.

Work got under way in January at North Quay but all but essential activity was suspended in March while Corinthian Homes (part of the Corinthian Homes Group) reviewed procedures and protocols across all its sites to ensure these could operate safely and in line with government Coronvirus guidelines.

North Quay was the first site to trial new working practices during April and these are being rolled out across the group from this week.

Simon Wright, CEO of Corinthian Homes Group, said: “We are pleased to announce that we are launching a phased return to construction across all of our development sites.

“Whilst construction sites have been deemed a permitted activity by the Government subject to maintaining social distancing and other guidance, we considered it essential that procedures were put in place to ensure the health and wellbeing of our workforce and their families.

“As a result of the hard work and dedication of our team, our site management team introduced a phased return at our Hayle development for essential works and to trial the new practices. Due to a successful period of refining our practices, we are pleased to announce will be implementing a phased return of the workforce across all developments from 11th May.”

Work carried out at Hayle has included essential maintenance dredging of sand from Hayle harbour, the material from which has been used to support farming activities and sand dune replenishment locally. External groundwork, drainage and foundation works on site have also been progressed, adopting the new working practices.

North Quay will feature beautifully designed homes, new shops and open spaces, all set within a stunning waterside location just yards from the magnificent Hayle Towans Beaches.

The scheme, designed by internationally renowned architects and urban designers Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, has been shortlisted in the project category in the prestigious Housing Design Awards 2020.

Once complete, North Quay will become a focal point for further phases of the regeneration and a destination in its own right, for people living and working locally or enjoying a visit to Hayle, its near neighbour St Ives and wider West Cornwall.

North Quay is set amongst the striking scenery of the Hayle Estuary and within the boundaries of the Hayle Conservation Area and The UNESCO World Heritage Site for Cornwall and Devon.

It will feature approximately 140 properties over 11 buildings, including 17 three bedroom wharf style houses and one, two and three bedroom apartments, many with views over the Hayle estuary and beyond. More than 30 per cent of released properties were sold at launch earlier this year.

Phase 1 also includes the development of North Quay Square, which will host events all year round, and some 20 retail units for offices, shops and restaurants, creating a bustling café culture.

Public access to the beach will be maintained for all to enjoy and there will also be new car parking facilities at North Quay, a variety of attractive and well-connected pedestrian-friendly streets and seating areas incorporated into key locations along the wharf.
